Summary
Do you want to know how to use Tableau? If your answer is "Yes!", this is the book to read. First, it shows what Tableau can do fundamentally. Then, it goes into chart types. Third, it highlights tips and tricks that you can do on Tableau to create functional charts. Finally, it discusses the framework to create data visualisations (viz). With 1 trick or tip for each chapter, the book collects 100 chapters. There is also some overlapping information in this book with another book by the same author, Tableau Desktop Pocket Reference.
Things I like
1. The book keeps its chapters short and to the point. By having each tip or trick as a concise chapter, the book is being kept accessible for new users and people who are just looking to pick a few tricks to up their Tableau level. Although I will prefer more graphical details, the chapters offer step-by-step instructions and advice on how to optimise your Tableau experience.
2. It helps readers create functional charts. Unlike other books on data viz, the book goes into the functions of a tool and presents methods on not only chart design but also the user experience side of things. This is especially true for the part "III. Tips and Tricks" whereby readers get to learn how to use inbuild Tableau functions to create charts for analyses using Parameters and Calculations.
Final Verdict: A book to find out about what Tableau can do. There may also be a trick or two that you may find useful out of the 100 available, even as an experienced user.
