I read the 2021 version.
Summary
A book that introduces readers to Tableau from the most fundamentals. It is almost like a crash course or a one-day workshop on Tableau. An item-by-item explanation of many of the buttons and functions on Tableau that you think you know or remember how to use - the book is not only suitable for beginners who do not know how to navigate Tableau, but it is also for long-time users who may have forgotten or missed out certain functions. There is also some overlapping information in this book with another book by the same author, Practical Tableau.
Things I like
1. The book starts from the most basic. By going into each of the essential features with clear and precise explanations, the book helps readers to understand what they are truly doing. This is especially true when users know what buttons to hit to make changes to their data vizzes, while they do not know why it helps or how the changes come about. By understanding the basics (again, for some), users will become more confident in their use of Tableau.
2. It reminds you why Tableau should be your go-to tool for quick data visualisation or even calculation. Although this may not be the purpose of the book, the focus on calculations in Tableau shows that Tableau is more than a data visualisation tool. It can also be used as an analytical tool to break down your data for you and your audience.
Final Verdict: If your organisation was to implement Tableau as a tool this would be the book that your organisation should refer to when it had designed its guide for the staff.
