Book Review: HR Analytics In-Depth by Subhashini Sharma Tripathi and Subhashini Sharma Tripathi

I read the 2022 version.

Summary

Written for Human Resource professionals, this book shines HR in a different light. Using frameworks and analytics, the authors turn HR into a science rather than a subject based on emotions and subjectivity. The book starts with an introduction to analysing data for HR. It then goes into various topics like hiring, learning & development, employee engagement, performance, compensation, and attrition. To analyse the HR data, the book suggests a framework to tackle HR problems using data analytics. First, define. Second, collect. Then, organise. Followed by visualise. After which, analyse. Finally, insight. Examples using the 6 steps methodology are done with screenshots from Microsoft Excel.

Things I Like

1. Frameworks. Filled with frameworks, the book offers structured ways to solve data-related issues in HR. These frameworks provide solutions for HR professionals even if they are not savvy in working with data. By splitting the books into the different topics in HR, the authors prove to be knowledgeable in the field. Hence, it makes reading the book relatable to the contexts shared.

2. Excel examples. Using Excel as the chosen software to conduct the data analytics, the book becomes accessible to many professionals who do not have access to other data tools. It shows the possibilities of working with HR data in a complex way through correlation, ANOVA, and regression techniques.

Final Verdict: A book for every HR professional who seeks to up their data analytics skills.
