Summary
I am not in finance or a finance professional, but all business is about finance. Hence, I have decided to give this book a read. This book as the title says is about visualising financial data. One may wonder how is visualising financial data different from visualising other kinds of data. This book may show you why through some charts that are hardly seen in other books I have come across so far. Containing more than 250 vizzes, this book walks the readers through practical situations in investing, accounting, and reporting. Different data types in finance are given their own ways of visualisation in this book.
Things I Like
1. Unique chart types. For a book published in 2016, the charts in this book look still sleek. It is done by avoiding discussing specific software and how-tos. Instead, this book focuses on chart designs and their purposes, while it does not forget to talk about how each chart is used to highlight the different financial data.
2. Clear descriptions of chart types, purposes, and pros. The summaries are helpful in letting the readers know when and why to use each chart. However, the charts are not confined to the field of finance as the concepts can be plugged and played into other kinds of data. Thus, it serves as an inspiration to discover how data can be displayed and communicated in different industries via similar ways or new methods.
Final Verdict: This is a book not only for finance professionals but also anyone interested in knowing more chart types, with the caveat that this is not a "how-to" book.
